Printed notes are still how most people revise, and a phone full of PDFs is not the same thing. What bulk notes actually cost

A5 black and white printed double-sided is Rs 0.38 a page, dropping to Rs 0.34 at 100 copies or more — the cheapest rate on the calculator. A4 is Rs 0.60, or Rs 0.54 at 100 copies or more. A 100-page A5 handout printed in 100 copies is Rs 3,400 for the printing, which is Rs 34 a set. The calculator applies the tier automatically once you cross it.

A5 is usually the right size for notes

A5 halves the paper cost against A4 and produces a booklet that fits a bag and a desk. For dense study material with diagrams, A4 is easier to read and worth the difference. Most coaching handouts are laid out two-up on A4 and printed as A5 — if that is your source file, export it at A5 rather than letting the printer scale it.

Binding a set of notes

Corner staple at Rs 2 is the cheapest way to hold a handout together and the usual choice for weekly material. Centre staple at Rs 25 gives a proper booklet that opens flat, or Rs 35 with a laminated cover for something that will be carried for a year. Spiral at Rs 40 lies flat on a desk, which is why most students prefer it for anything they write alongside. Soft cover perfect binding at Rs 110 turns a full syllabus into a book.

Printing for a coaching institute

There is no maximum quantity. A batch of a hundred students taking the same module is a single job: one PDF, one hundred copies, printed and bound together and dispatched as one consignment. Scanned notes and handwritten material

Handwritten notes print perfectly well if the scan is good. Use a phone scanner app in document mode rather than a plain camera photo, so pages are flattened, cropped and de-skewed, and scan at 300 DPI where the writing is small. A grey, curved photograph of a page prints as a grey, curved page — the printer reproduces what you send.

Colour, and when it is worth it

Notes are almost always black and white, at a fifth of the cost of colour. Colour is Rs 3.36 per A4 page double-sided, Rs 3.06 at 100 copies or more. Where diagrams are colour-coded and the coding carries meaning — anatomy, circuit schematics, maps — print those pages as a separate colour section and bind them in.
