Printing & Binding for IIT Guwahati

IIT Guwahati's mechanical engineering project report guideline asks for hard bound final copies with all lettering embossed in gold, on the cover and on the bound side. Printster prints and binds to that specification and delivers to Guwahati in 5–10 working days, with black & white from ₹0.60 a page and hard binding from ₹250 a copy.

IIT Guwahati sits on a 700-acre campus on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, and it is the only IIT in the North East. That geography shapes what its students need from a printer: Guwahati has far fewer thesis-grade binderies than Delhi or Chennai, and gold foil work in particular is hard to source locally at short notice. The Institute's published project report guideline is unusually precise about the physical object — 70 gsm or heavier paper at 95% whiteness or above, a 40 mm institute emblem on the cover, and gold embossing on both the front cover and the bound side. Printster prints and binds to that description and ships to Guwahati, so a scholar can order from the hostel rather than negotiate with a local binder over foil stock.

Institution type: IIT, City: Guwahati, Assam; delivery: 5–10 working days. Printster has been printing for Indian students since 2014 and has delivered over 2.5 lakh orders.

Gold embossing on the cover and the spine

This is the specification that most often sends IIT Guwahati students looking beyond a campus photocopier. The guideline says all lettering on the front cover shall be embossed in gold, and that the degree, the candidate's name and the year of submission shall also be embossed on the bound side in gold. Printster's hard binding is ₹250 a copy; with gold foiling on the front and the spine it is ₹350 a copy. Both are quoted on upload, so you can see the difference before you commit. If your department accepts a plain hard bound copy, the ₹250 option is the one you want.

Paper that meets the 70 gsm and 95% whiteness rule

Most everyday photocopying in India runs on 70–75 gsm stock of unspecified whiteness, which is why a report printed at a local shop can look grey next to the guideline's description. IIT Guwahati asks for white bond paper of 95% whiteness or above and 70 gram or more per square metre, at standard A4, 297 mm by 210 mm. Printster prints on 75 gsm as standard and can quote heavier stock; specify the weight you need in the order notes and it is set before production starts.

Single sided or double sided — the margins change

The guideline gives the candidate the choice, and the margin table changes with it. Single sided, or an odd numbered page in a double sided report, takes a 30 mm left margin and a 20 mm right margin. An even numbered page in a double sided report reverses that: 20 mm left, 30 mm right. Getting this wrong is the single most common reason a bound report has to be reprinted, because the wider margin has to fall on the bound edge every time. Set mirrored margins in your word processor before you export the PDF, and check page 2 as well as page 1.

Evaluation copies before the viva, hard bound after

IIT Guwahati runs the same two-stage submission most Indian engineering programmes use. The evaluation copies may be spiral bound or soft bound, and the hard bound copies are submitted after the viva voce examination. Spiral binding is ₹40 a copy and soft cover binding ₹110, so the draft round is inexpensive; the gold-foiled hard bound copies come later, once corrections are in. Two extra white sheets go at the beginning and the end of the report, in addition to the white sheets the binding itself requires — tell us if you want those added rather than adding them to your PDF.

Delivery to Guwahati and the IIT campus

Upload at printster.in as PDF, DOCX, PPT, JPG, PNG or ZIP, up to 100MB. Choose paper, colour and binding, add your hostel or off-campus address in Guwahati, and pay by UPI, card or net banking — there is no cash on delivery. Assam is outside Delhi NCR, so the published window is 5–10 working days counted from the next working day after you order, and hard binding, soft cover binding or glue binding adds 1–2 days on top. For a gold-foiled hard bound thesis, plan on the longer end of that range.

IIT Guwahati submission specifications

Taken from the institution’s own published guidelines: IIT Guwahati, Department of Mechanical Engineering — Guidelines for Preparation of B.Tech Project Report. Where a specification is not published we say so rather than guess — always confirm the current requirement with your department before printing.

This is the Department of Mechanical Engineering's B.Tech project report guideline, not an institute-wide thesis format. Other departments and higher degrees at IIT Guwahati may specify differently — confirm with your own department.

Binding required"The evaluation copies of the project report may be spiral bound or soft bound. The final hard bound copies to be submitted after the viva voce examination will be accepted during the submission of project report." Two additional white sheets are put at the beginning and the end, over and above the white sheets the binding itself requires.
Cover colourNot publicly specified — confirm with your department.
Spine text"The degree, the name of the candidate and the year of submission shall also be embossed on the bound (side) in gold."
Title page layoutFront cover: full title in 6 mm / 22 point font centred at the top; full name of the candidate in 4.5 mm / 15 point font centred in the middle of the page; a 40 mm diameter replica of the Institute emblem followed by the name of the department, name of the Institute and the year of submission, each on a separate line, centred at the bottom. "All lettering shall be embossed in gold." The title sheet is the first printed page and carries the submission statement, the name and Roll No. of the candidate, the name of the supervisor, department, institute and year of submission.
MarginsTop margin 15 mm (30 mm when no header is used), bottom margin 22 mm, head height 3 mm, head separation 12 mm, footer 3 mm, foot separation 10 mm, text height 245 mm, text width 160 mm. Single-sided or odd-numbered pages: left 30 mm, right 20 mm. Double-sided even-numbered pages: left 20 mm, right 30 mm. Chapter opening pages take an additional top margin of about 75 mm.
Paper size and weight"The project report shall be printed on white bond paper, whiteness 95% or above, weight 70 gram or more per square meter." "The size of the paper shall be standard A 4; height 297 mm, width 210 mm." Single or double sided printing is at the candidate's option.
Line spacing"The standard font shall be Times New Roman of 12 pts. with 1.5 line spacing." Vertical space between paragraphs is about 2.5 line spacing.

Frequently asked questions

Can Printster do the gold embossing IIT Guwahati asks for?
Yes. Hard binding with gold foiling on the front cover and the spine is ₹350 a copy, against ₹250 for plain hard binding. The guideline asks for the degree, the candidate's name and the year of submission on the bound side in gold, which is what the spine foiling covers.
What paper weight should I choose for an IIT Guwahati report?
The guideline asks for 70 gram or more per square metre at 95% whiteness or above. Printster's standard stock is 75 gsm, which meets the weight; if your department wants heavier, say so in the order notes and it is quoted before production.
Does this guideline apply to my department?
The document Printster works from is the Department of Mechanical Engineering's B.Tech project report guideline. It is not an institute-wide thesis format, and other departments and higher degrees may specify differently. Confirm with your own department before printing, and use the source link above as the authority.
How long does delivery to Guwahati take?
5–10 working days from the next working day after you place the order, which is the published window for states outside Delhi NCR. Hard binding, soft cover binding and glue binding add 1–2 days.
Can I print the evaluation copies cheaply and the final copies properly?
That is exactly how the guideline is structured. Order spiral bound copies at ₹40 each for evaluation, then place a second order for gold-foiled hard bound copies after the viva voce, once corrections are in.
