AKTU asks for spiral at evaluation and hard bound after the viva

The specification we hold here is AKTU Lucknow's thesis guideline, published on aktu.ac.in and checked on 2026-09-06. For evaluation it asks for a thesis "printed on both sides and spiral bound using flexible cover of thick white art paper" — four copies for a Ph.D., three for M.Tech. and M.Pharm. Hard bound copies come later, for final submission after the viva-voce.

Spiral is no rare finish here: 1,319 Lucknow printed items carry it, 16.1% of what we print for the city against 17.6% across India. The guideline codes the cover by degree: M.Tech. "bound with hard cover not less than 120 gsm with light blue with impressions printed in black colour", M.Pharm. the same at light pink, the Ph.D. "cloth bound dark blue background with impressions embossed in permanent golden colour". The spine carries the title, the candidate's name, and the month and year of final submission.

No line on it is described as cloth bound, or as a hard cover in a stated colour and weight, and the AKTU document names no product of ours and no price. What an examiner in Lucknow accepts is the department's call.

80 gsm paper, a 35 mm left margin, a 290mm x 205mm page

Two things are settled inside your file, not on the order form. The margins are the file's own — "top edge 25 mm, bottom edge 25 mm, left side 35 mm, right side 25 mm", the left the widest of the four. On paper the guideline states a preference rather than a floor: "good quality white paper preferably not lower than 80 gsm". It gives two page sizes: "Standard A4 size (297mm x 210mm) paper may be used for preparing the copies", and "Page dimensions of the final copies should be 290mm x 205mm". There are four, all worked on one 200-page file, A4 black and white double-sided on 75 GSM Normal at 1 to 49 copies, before GST: pages alone Rs 120, with hard binding Rs 370, with golden print on the front Rs 395, front and spine Rs 470. GST of 5% goes on top. They are the only totals we publish, each for one copy.
AKTU asks for three or four copies. Does the rate change?
Not at those counts. The per-page rate is quoted for a normal order of 1 to 49 copies of a document of 21 pages or more, and binding is priced per copy on the 1 to 50 copy band, so three or four copies sit inside both. The cart shows the full price before you pay.
Can you produce the dark blue cloth binding AKTU sets for a Ph.D.?
Our binding lines are named by method — hard binding Rs 250, golden print on the front Rs 275, front and spine Rs 350, per copy before GST — and none is described as cloth bound. The guideline at https://aktu.ac.in/pdf/MGuidelines%202019.pdf names no product of ours, so ask your department what it will accept.
How early should a thesis be ordered against a submission date?
As soon as the file is final. The published window for Lucknow is 5 to 10 working days, counted from the next working day after we accept the order, and it already includes production.
