The University of Calcutta regulation asks for one hard-bound copy

The University of Calcutta's PhD regulations put the deposit in one line: "One hard-bound copy of the final thesis, incorporating all corrections, is deposited with the University Central Library through the PAO." Source: caluniv.ac.in, PhD regulations 2025, checked 31 August 2026. It names a binding and a count, then stops: no paper weight, no cover colour, no spine lettering, no margin rule.

For a Kolkata candidate that is one bound copy for the deposit, not a set, with binding charged per copy on top of the pages. At the 1 to 50 copy tier, before GST, our card lists hard binding at ₹250, golden print on the front at ₹275, front and spine at ₹350. The regulation says hard-bound and nothing about lettering, so ask the department before paying for gold.

What our Jadavpur University file settles, and what it leaves open

We hold sourced submission specifications for two Kolkata institutions: the University of Calcutta and Jadavpur University. The Jadavpur document we checked is the thesis front page, at jaduniv.edu.in, checked 31 August 2026; it settles that page. It carries no binding, paper, cover colour, spine or margin requirement we can quote. A page that invented one would read better and be worth less.

So the file stays in your hands, which is where most of a Kolkata submission is settled anyway. Margins, blank leaves and the front page are fixed in the PDF before upload; what you send is what prints.
