That row carries no page average: a poster is looked at rather than read through, and nothing is bound around it, so the stock is visible before the words are. Posters run to A3, 12 x 18 inch and 13 x 19 inch.

From 130 GSM up the decision moves from weight to coating. Matte and glossy name a surface, not a substance: matte is stocked from 130 GSM to 300 GSM, glossy from 170 GSM to 300 GSM. Matte scatters reflected light, so an Adur poster stays legible off-axis and behind glass. Glossy hands the light back, holding photographic colour, but puts a bright patch wherever a lamp sits.

212-page paperbacks, and soft cover at 5.8x the national share

Paperback books are 16 of Adur's 115 printed items, 13.9% of what we print for the city against 10.7% across India, and that row averages 212 pages. Finishes sit on a separate table of 103 items, so the two never mix. Soft cover binding takes 21 of them: 20.4% of what we finish for Adur against 3.5% across India, about 5.8 times the national share, at ₹110 a copy for 1 to 50 copies, ex-GST.

At 212 pages the text stock stops being invisible. Weight decides how thick the block becomes and how squarely the wrapped cover has to hold it, and a heavier sheet builds a fatter spine from the same page count. Soft cover, hard, glue and tape and saddle stitch binding each add 1 to 2 working days on top of the 3 to 5 working days of production, so an Adur paperback needs that allowed for.

Spiral on 31.1% of Adur finishes is a paper decision

Spiral binding takes 32 of the 103 finished items recorded for Adur: 31.1% against 17.6% across India, about 1.8 times the national share. Loose sheets with no binding take 40, the most-chosen finish on Adur work at 38.8%, under the national 53.9% while spiral sits well over its own. Spiral is ₹40 a copy, staple ₹15 and corner staple ₹2, at 1 to 50 copies.

Spiral asks something of the sheet a glued cover does not. The holes are punched into a narrow margin and the copy pivots on them each time it is laid flat, so that margin is where a thin sheet tears first, and a torn punch cannot be mended. On a reference copy opened daily, the step from 75 GSM to 85 or 100 GSM is bought at the punch line.

When couriered printing is the wrong answer for Adur
