What a print run actually costs

The printing scales and the binding does not. A 200-page A5 novel is Rs 76 of printing at Rs 0.38 a page, or Rs 68 at Rs 0.34 on 100 copies or more, plus Rs 110 a copy for perfect binding. A hundred copies of that book is roughly Rs 17,800 before GST and delivery. The calculator gives the exact figure against your own page count. Choosing the trim size

A5 is the natural novel and handbook size and costs Rs 0.38 a page against A4 at Rs 0.60. A4 suits technical books, manuals, workbooks and anything with diagrams, tables or code. Decide before you typeset, because reflowing a finished book into a different trim size moves every page break in it. Preparing the interior

One PDF, fonts embedded, images at 300 DPI, page size consistent from first page to last. Set a mirrored gutter of at least 15 mm on the inside edge for perfect binding, or the text runs into the spine. Check that blank versos fall where you intended, because a missing blank shifts every page after it from recto to verso.
