Printster vs your local print shop

An honest comparison — including the part where we cannot quote their price.

Should you switch?

Not for a few pages you need today — walk to the shop, it will be faster and you can check the print before paying. Switch for long documents, thesis binding, or anything where you want one consistent run delivered to your door without two trips.

Local copy shops do not publish rate cards, and prices vary by city, shop and negotiation. We do not quote a figure for them because there is no public source to cite.

The price row we left blank

Every other page in this comparison cluster cites a competitor’s own published rate. For local shops there is nothing to cite: they do not publish rate cards, and the price depends on your city, the shop, the machine and how many copies you want. So we have left it blank rather than fill it with a number that would look authoritative and be made up.

One Printster customer wrote in a published review in August 2022: “My local stationary in Mumbai takes 3-5 rs for one page.” That is one customer's experience in one city, not market data.

Which is better for your job

Thesis or dissertation

Printster, usually. A long document printed in one run avoids the mismatched paper and drifting toner you get when a job is split across sessions, and hard binding with golden print on front and spine is ₹350 per copy with the format published in advance.

Exam and study notes

Depends on volume. For a few chapters before an exam, the shop wins on speed. For a semester’s notes, A5 double-sided at ₹0.34 a page is hard to beat and you do not have to carry it home.

Project reports

Close. If you need several identical bound copies for a team submission, one online run keeps them identical; spiral binding is ₹40 per copy. If you need one copy by this afternoon, go to the shop.

A single document

The local shop, almost always. A few pages printed while you wait beats any delivery window, and our delivery charge alone would exceed the printing cost.

When the local shop is the better choice

Frequently asked questions

Is online printing cheaper than my local shop?
We cannot tell you, and any site that gives you a firm answer is guessing. Local shops do not publish rate cards, and prices vary by city, shop and how much you are printing. What we can tell you is our own price: ₹0.54 per A4 page in black & white, double-sided on 75 gsm, before GST. Take that to your local shop and compare.
Why won't you quote a local shop price?
Because there is no public source to cite. Every figure on this page comes from a page we can link to, and no such page exists for the shop near you. One Printster customer wrote in a published review in August 2022 that their local Mumbai stationery charged ₹3 to ₹5 per page, but that is one person's experience in one city four years ago, not a market rate.
When is the local shop clearly better?
When you need it in the next hour, when it is a handful of pages, when you want to see the print before paying, or when you have no address to deliver to. None of those are things an online service does well.
What does online printing do better?
Long documents, mainly. Cost is predictable before you order, the whole run comes off one machine with the same paper, and it arrives at your door with tracking. For a 300-page thesis in hard binding, that consistency matters more than the per-page rate.
Can a local shop do university thesis binding?
Some can; many send it out to a binder, which adds days. If your university requires hard binding with golden print on the front and spine, ask before committing — we charge ₹350 per copy for that format and publish it up front.

How these figures were checked. Printster’s rates come from our own published rate card (config/rate-card.json — extracted from pricing engine module 1 on 30 August 2026. All Printster prices exclude GST (5%).) and are also on our pricing page. Competitor figures were read from their own public pages on the dates below. We do not publish a competitor price we have not seen on their own site — where a company does not publish a rate, we say so instead of estimating one.

Competitor figures last verified: 31 August 2026. Next scheduled review: 30 November 2026 (we re-check this cluster quarterly). Prices change without notice — check the linked source before you order.
