Glue / Tape Binding Online in India
Glue or tape binding finishes the spine of a loose page stack with a bead of adhesive and a cloth or paper tape strip, giving a neat edge without a full cover. It is the simplest and cheapest way to bind everyday documents and internal reports. Prices start from ₹30 and production adds 1–2 working days.
Glue and tape binding is the workhorse of office document finishing. Pages are jogged square, the spine edge is coated with adhesive, and a narrow strip of cloth, kraft paper, or self-adhesive tape is pressed along the length of the spine to hold everything together and provide a tidy edge. The result is a clean-edged stack that is easy to handle, stores upright, and looks far neater than a loose stapled sheaf — without the cost or production time of a full cover-bind. This type of binding is common for internal company documents, government reports, training packs, and classroom handouts where the content is what matters and presentation requirements are minimal. It also works well for documents that will be photocopied or scanned, since pages lie flat when opened. At Printster, glue/tape binding starts from ₹30 — one of the most affordable bound finishes available. Production does add 1–2 working days, so factor that into your deadline.

What Glue / Tape Binding Actually Is
There are two closely related finishes that fall under this category:
Glue binding (padding): Pages are clamped together and a flexible padding compound is brushed along one edge. Once cured, the pages are held as a block but each page can still be torn off cleanly along a score if needed — this is the same technique used for notepads and answer-sheet pads. Used without a cover, it produces a simple bound document.
Tape binding: A self-adhesive tape — usually a cloth-backed bookbinding tape in black, blue, or red — is pressed over the spine edge of a clamped page stack. The tape holds the pages together and gives the spine a finished colour. No cover is attached; the first and last pages act as the visible faces of the document.
Some finishing houses use both: a thin adhesive layer first, then tape over the top. The two are often listed interchangeably by online print services because the end result is visually similar.
When to Use Glue / Tape Binding
Choose glue or tape binding when:
- You need a simple, low-cost finish. It is significantly cheaper than perfect binding and avoids the cost of a printed cover.
- The document is for internal use. Team reports, HR packs, tender documents, and training materials that circulate within an organisation do not require the presentation of a printed cover.
- Pages need to lie fairly flat. Tape-bound documents open reasonably flat on a desk, though not as fully as spiral or wiro.
- You have a very short deadline or tight budget. For reference, this is the lowest-cost binding with a proper finished spine available on Printster.
Avoid tape binding if you need pages to lie completely flat (use spiral or wiro), if you want a printed cover with title on the spine (use perfect or hardcover), or if the document will be handled heavily over a long period (use spiral, wiro, or hardcover).
How Durable Is Tape Binding?
Tape binding is adequate for documents read through a few times over weeks or months. The adhesive can weaken with repeated flexing or in sustained heat, so it is not recommended for documents that will be consulted daily over years. For anything that needs to survive heavy daily use, mechanical bindings (spiral, wiro) are the better option.
File Preparation
Glue and tape binding does not require punching, so there is no mandatory gutter allowance — standard margins of 10–15 mm on all sides are sufficient. Submit your file as a PDF with embedded fonts. If you want a colour cover sheet as the first page, simply include it in the PDF; it will be printed on your chosen cover paper stock and included as the exterior face.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between glue binding and tape binding?
- Glue (padding) binding uses a flexible adhesive compound applied to the spine; tape binding uses a self-adhesive cloth or paper strip pressed over the spine. Both produce a similar finished appearance and are often offered as the same service, but tape adds a neat coloured strip along the spine edge.
- Can I add a cover page to a glue / tape bound document?
- Yes. Include a cover page as the first page of your PDF, optionally printed on heavier stock. Without a wrap-around cover, the document shows the first and last pages as its outer faces, so your cover design should be on page 1.
- Does glue / tape binding add extra production time?
- Yes — glue/tape binding adds 1–2 working days to the standard schedule. Delivery after dispatch is 4–7 working days for Delhi NCR and 7–10 working days for the rest of India.
- How many pages can be glue or tape bound?
- There is no strict upper limit, but very thick stacks (500+ pages) may have reduced adhesive strength at the extremes. For very large documents, perfect binding with a printed cover provides a stronger and more professional result.
- Will the pages fall out of a tape-bound document?
- With normal handling, no. Tape binding is secure for documents read through a reasonable number of times. Repeated heavy flexing, extreme heat, or very humid storage conditions can weaken the adhesive bond over time.
- Is glue / tape binding the same as perfect binding?
- No. Perfect binding includes a full wrap-around printed cover with a square flat spine that shows the title. Glue/tape binding only finishes the spine edge without a cover. Perfect binding is a more premium, book-like finish and costs more.
